PathFactory is a leading B2B content marketing platform that helps brands optimize content delivery to drive better engagement and faster conversions. By providing data-driven insights into content consumption, PathFactory empowers marketing teams to create personalized, effective content strategies that accelerate business growth. With its advanced analytics and seamless content experience, PathFactory enables organizations to deliver the right content to the right audience at the right time.
The Goal:
At PathFactory, Recognized the need for a more flexible and user-friendly analytics platform to meet the evolving demands of our business. For years, they relied on Looker to provide insightful business intelligence, but as data needs grew, the complexity of maintaining and navigating Looker dashboards became a barrier to efficiency. With a fast-paced environment and diverse team needs, it became clear that a more intuitive, collaborative platform was necessary.
Hence, PathFactory set an objective to migrate from Looker to Sigma without disrupting the business operations while maintaining all the critical insights that had been cultivated. They aimed to:
- Replicate Looker dashboards and reports in Sigma with minimal disruption.
- Empower their marketing and content teams to self-serve, with less reliance on technical support.
- Improve the speed and collaboration of their analytics.
The Migration Journey which VThink helped
1. Initial Assessment
The migration journey began with a detailed study and analysis of existing Looker workbooks. PathFactory took a deep dive into all the dashboards and reports, evaluating which ones were still in active use and which had become redundant over time. Studying the initial assessment from them helped us identify the most critical and high-value reports that needed to be migrated, ensuring that our efforts were focused on the reports that truly supported the business objectives.
2. Dashboard Consolidation
Rather than migrating every single existing report, PathFactory made the decision to streamline the analytics environment and reached out to end-users and stakeholders to gather feedback on the most necessary dashboards for their day-to-day operations. This allowed them to eliminate unused workbooks and consolidate similar dashboards into one unified report. With input from technical team on the feasibility, they combined two or three redundant dashboards into a single, more effective report, thus cutting down on unnecessary complexity and ensured a cleaner, more efficient reporting structure within Sigma.

3. Data Modeling and Dashboard Rebuilding
We then transitioned to Sigma’s SQL-based environment, where we replicated and optimized the core functionality of our reports and dashboards. Sigma’s drag-and-drop interface made it easier to rebuild the reports while maintaining data integrity and enhancing their accessibility. The migration also leveraged Sigma’s powerful querying capabilities, which resulted in faster performance and more agile data exploration—allowing teams to work more efficiently and effectively.
4. Testing, Validation, and Training
Once the dashboards were rebuilt, we thoroughly tested and validated each one to ensure the data was accurate and the visualizations aligned with the original Looker reports. We worked closely with the teams to make sure the filters, drilldowns, and calculations performed as expected. After finalizing the dashboards, we rolled out training sessions to equip users with the skills to navigate Sigma’s interface and utilize its features. This phase was critical in ensuring a smooth transition and empowering the team to get the most out of the new platform.

Challenges
While the migration to Sigma was largely seamless, several challenges arose during the process:
- Data Model Complexity: The transition from Looker’s LookML model to Sigma’s SQL-based environment required a deep understanding of the existing data models. Ensuring consistency in the data structure was critical, and it took time to refine and optimize SQL queries.
- User Training and Adoption: As Sigma introduced a new way of exploring data, some users were initially hesitant about adopting the platform. Training sessions and hands-on support were essential in overcoming this challenge and helping users feel comfortable with the new system.
- Dashboard Consolidation: Identifying redundant dashboards and consolidating them into more efficient reports was time-consuming. However, the effort paid off by reducing complexity and improving user experience in the long run.
- Data Integrity: Ensuring that the transition maintained the integrity of data and visualizations was a major priority. Close testing and validation were required to ensure that reports generated in Sigma matched the accuracy of those in Looker.

Impact on PathFactory's Growth
The migration to Sigma represents a significant step forward in PathFactory's growth journey. By unlocking the full potential of our data, we’re poised to make faster, more informed decisions that will drive key business outcomes. This transition will:
- Accelerate time-to-market: With faster reporting and real-time collaboration, teams can respond more quickly to shifts in the content-to-market landscape, making it easier to capitalize on opportunities.
- Enhance data-driven strategies: The ability for marketing teams to autonomously access and analyze data empowers them to develop more targeted, effective campaigns, improving customer engagement and conversion.
- Support scalability: Sigma’s scalable nature means PathFactory can handle growing data volumes with ease, preparing the company to expand its reach and capabilities without worrying about outgrowing the platform.
- Foster innovation: With less time spent managing complex reporting processes and more time exploring data, teams will have the flexibility to innovate, test new ideas, and push boundaries in the content marketing space.
The seamless shift to Sigma not only optimizes PathFactory’s data operations but also positions the company for sustained growth, innovation, and a stronger competitive edge in the content-to-market marketing industry.
